Couples Connection Class, (In-Person)
Cost: $180
*Price is for two people.
*Masks are optional to attend this in-person class.
*Space is limited to 5 couples.
This Couples Connection Class is unlike any other class you might take in preparation for birth. You can’t predict or plan for birth, not really. But you can set yourselves up to be present to one another, to focus on what really matters, and to feel deeply connected as a family even before your baby arrives.
Couples Connection is about solidifying your couple relationship in preparation for labor and birth. There will be practical hands-on experiences focused on the role of the partner and what they can do specifically to help you cope with your contractions.
You will learn how to create your own “Connection Bubble” the term I use to create a special bond between you and your partner so that no matter how your birth unfolds, your baby can be born in to this deep, strong connection that you share already.
Barb Buckner Suárez is a Health Educator specializing in pregnancy, birth, and parenting. She’s taught thousands of couples for over 25+ years about the benefits of embracing the vulnerability that comes with becoming a parent. Barb’s a Lamaze-certified Childbirth Educator, a Fellow in the Academy of Certified Childbirth Educators, a Certified Becoming Us Facilitator, and Mentor for Becoming Us Facilitators. She’s also a professed “brain nerd” and holds a Masters Level Certificate in Interpersonal Neurobiology. Barb’s fascinated with the science behind the “Couples Connection” classes she created to help strengthen the connection between the birthing person and their partner, so that no matter how birth unfolds, their baby can be born into that strong and loving connection. She believes that connection is everything… and it begins with birth.

Will I Learn how to have a Natural Birth?
Evidence Based Birth® believes that every person has their own unique path. Instead of focusing on medicated vs. unmedicated birth, we focus on giving you tools and helping you learn the evidence, so that you can be empowered to make your own decisions! We do have a strong emphasis on non-drug comfort measures, because they have no side effects and can be used by everyone, whether or not you plan to use medications.
By the end of this class my goal is for you to have the tools that you feel are the best fit for your birth experience. If you’re interested in a low-intervention, physiological birth, this class will help you give you relaxation and pain management tools as well as a solid understanding of when and how to use them. If an epidural or Cesarean Birth are part of your birth choice options, we’ll cover how you can be empowered during discussion related to both. Because birth can unfold in unpredictable ways we also discuss advocacy and resiliency in navigating unexpected challenges.

Alison Akan has worked in the birth world in many different roles since 2013. From a midwife's assistant, full time birth doula to becoming a Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator, Alison has supported many families on the journey to meeting their babies in and out of the hospital environment. Alison’s desire to reach more expectant parents who want an out of hospital birth, came the realization that teaching childbirth education was the way forward. Alison enjoys sharing current evidence, simplifying what pregnant people need to know about birth, focusing on the things that are within our control, and preparing preferences for every scenario. Babies are born in a variety of settings and the reward is always exceptional. Alison’s goal teaching this class is to help parents planning an out of hospital birth, feel supported, empowered, and to increase trust in the process so that they can have the most positive birthing experience possible.
