In this 3-hour workshop for labor doulas, you will experience how effective massage can be in helping your clients feel connected, safe, and supported during labor; learn to identify and offer safety cues with your hands; and practice massage techniques for labor with a professional massage therapist by your side.

We will discuss these topics and more, and spend ample time practicing in pairs. Bring a doula friend to practice with or be ready to make a new friend! Dress comfortably in layers and bring a water bottle. This is a supportive, active learning environment. You’ll leave with practical hands-on skills for the birth setting.
This workshop will be taught by Marissa Emery. Marissa has been a massage therapist (Oregon LMT #16230) and mother since 2009. In her inaugural years as a bodyworker, she experienced two pregnancies, two births, and two bouts of postpartum depression while discovering the joy and fulfillment of supporting others through touch. Since that pivotal time, she has dedicated her work to supporting others in the perinatal phase of life. Marissa is the owner of Mama Needs Massage and a Certified Instructor with the international Massage In Schools Program. She has been teaching massage to children, families, and other laypeople since 2014. She’s passionate about the power of positive touch to heal the world, and the value of teaching folks how to give and receive safe, healing touch.
