Meet Your Instructors:

Liz Farmer is a birth doula, childbirth educator and hypnotherapist. She has attended nearly 300 births and helped clients successfully use hypnosis in many of them. She also used hypnosis to have semi pain free and very positive birth experience. She lives in Portland, OR with her husband, young daughter and two cats. She is co-owner of the Birth First Education Center.

Alison Akan has worked in the birth world in many different roles since 2013. From a midwife's assistant, full time birth doula to becoming a Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator, Alison has supported many families on the journey to meeting their babies in and out of the hospital environment. Alison’s desire to reach more expectant parents who want an out of hospital birth, came the realization that teaching childbirth education was the way forward. Alison enjoys sharing current evidence, simplifying what pregnant people need to know about birth, focusing on the things that are within our control, and preparing preferences for every scenario. Babies are born in a variety of settings and the reward is always exceptional. Alison’s goal teaching this class is to help parents planning an out of hospital birth, feel supported, empowered, and to increase trust in the process so that they can have the most positive birthing experience possible.
